Most can relate when they hear the word “coffee”, be it that they have a friend or family member who drinks it or maybe they even drink it themselves. In fact, most of the famous pop culture cafes like Starbucks are famous for their caffeinated drink. It is often stereotyped that most coffee sales come from the younger majority. But how true is that claim?

Teens usually drink about 83.2 percent caffeine, according to youth researcher Yvette Brazier, but 38 percent of the caffeine consumed by teens is in some form of soda or pop. Through 2009, the number of people drinking coffee under the age of 18 raised a whole 14 percent and showed that 24 percent of caffeine consumed by minors was from coffee.
The effects of coffee have been tossed around and tweaked more than a game of telephone. Most have heard of the false growth stunting effect, but that is simply a tall tale. The effects of too much coffee can vary depending on tolerance and age. It can lead to anxiety, jitteriness, heart problems, and even death in extreme cases of consumption.

A normal cup of coffee would contain about 280 mg of caffeine, but if 400 mg or more is taken in, then it could have seriously bad effects on the health of anyone, not just teens. Even if it’s a trending drink, you should always be weary of what you put inside your body.
