In 1994, Disney Studios released “The Lion King” and it was a commercial success grossing more than $968 million worldwide.
After this recent era of remakes of popular movies, it seems Disney is in the works of casting a full list of A-list actors to portray the popular characters in the new “Lion King” movie. The new movie is set to be a CGI-live action hybrid, much like the remake of “The Jungle Book” that came out in 2016.
The new movie will be directed by Jon Favreau, and will include actors such as Donald Glover, Beyonce Knowles, and Seth Rogen with other talented actors in order to create buzz for such a well-voiced movie. Simba will be played by Glover, Nala by Beyonce, Mufasa by James Earl Jones, and Scar by Chiwetel Ejiofor.
This movie has insane hype surrounding it as it was trending on Twitter when it was announced, and looks to have a release date in mid or late 2019. After his show “Atlanta” gaining such high praise, it’s no wonder why Donald Glover has been given the opportunity to play Simba, as his talent and star power seems apparent more than ever.
Until the first trailer comes out it’ll all be speculation about the quality of the movie, but with an all-star cast like this it’s going to be hard to think that this will turn into a bad movie.
